machine weights or free weights?

I'm a 34 year old male who is very skinny with a sunk in chest. My sternum sticks out and all you feel is bone. My collar bone also sticks out. It's humiliating. I've decided to hit the gym HARD. I want a massive, beefy chest.

For best results do I use Machine Weights or Free Weights? Dumbells or bar?
