Overheating xbox, backwards heatsink could have fried the chip?

Ok yesterday my xbox overheated for the first time, but about a month a go my xbox got rrod so i fixed it since i was out of warranty, then two days later my disc drive broke, i sent it to a repair shop near were i live to have it fixed. They fixed it up, but when i got it back I had rrod again so when i took it a part i realized that i didn’t put enough heatsync paste on it. And when i did that i must of put the cpu heat sink in backwards, i should have notice when the fan shourd wouldn’t fit over it. any way to shorten this up can a heats sink fire a chip if no air is flowing over it?
